P-TECH is a public-education model that provides high school students from underserved backgrounds with the academic, technical, and professional skills and credentials they need for competitive STEM jobs.

On Thursday July 21st, our Advanced Studies UX/UI Design Interns facilitated an online workshop to over 120 P-TECH students and IBMers on empathy mapping and user personas; tools used by UX designers to understand their users' needs. Guided by a MURAL-based activity, workshop participants were given a choice of familiar and relevant products (TikTok, Duolingo, Nike and Minecraft) to then construct a persona and empathy map for. The workshop gave participants an opportunity to become familiar with the design process and understand the impact of using these tools.
