What Is the IBM System Planning Tool?

The IBM System Planning Tool (SPT) can be used to simplify the process of sizing and ordering a system hardware configuration with the necessary hardware components. Later, it can be used for configuring those resources into the appropriate operating system partitions. The SPT helps assure that partitions run satisfactorily when configured with the help of a capacity planning or sizing tool, such as the IBM Systems Workload Estimator (WLE).

System plan deployment leverages the output of the SPT to automate initial partition configuration during system setup. Utilization of both system planning and deployment capabilities can improve productivity and help assure a workable configuration.

The SPT can also be used as an ordering aid. The system plan produced can be imported into IBM Sales Configurator.

The IBM System Planning Tool and supporting documentation is available through the IBM Systems Support Site, at this Web address:
